What if my solar company has gone out of business?

The fact that your solar company has closed does not necessarily eliminate your options. Depending on the circumstances, there may be options related to the financing, the installation, or the representations made during the sale. We can review your specific situation.

What is a dealer fee and why does it matter?

A dealer fee is an amount paid by the solar lender to the solar company — typically ranging from 20% to 40% of the system cost — that is added to your loan balance. This means you may have borrowed significantly more than the actual cost of the system. Dealer fees are sometimes not clearly disclosed to homeowners and may be relevant to your review.

What is a UCC filing and how does it affect my home?

A UCC-1 financing statement is a public filing that gives notice of a creditor's interest in the solar equipment. When filed against real property, it can appear on title searches and affect your ability to sell or refinance your home. I was told I would get a tax credit. What if I didn't receive it?

Some homeowners were told they would receive a federal tax credit and that it would be applied to reduce their loan balance. If you didn't qualify for the credit or weren't told what would happen if you didn't apply it, your loan balance may have increased significantly. This may be relevant to your review.

My solar payments have increased. Is that normal?

Some solar loans and PPAs include annual payment escalators — typically 2–3% per year — that can significantly increase your payments over time. Whether these escalators were properly disclosed during the sale is one of the things we examine in a review.

Can I sell my home if I have a solar agreement?

You don't need to have all of these to start — just tell us what you have.
